Our Campsite Journey
Welcome to our little corner of the internet! We're so glad you've stopped by to learn about our family's big adventure: setting up a campsite. It all started with a dream and a whole lot of muddy boots, and looking back, it's amazing to see how far we've come.
This space is a chance for us to reflect on the progress we've made, share some of the bumps and triumphs along the way, and maybe even inspire a few smiles. We hope you enjoy taking a peek into our journey!
2021 – The Beginning
Rewind to 2021. For our family, it wasn't about new gadgets; it was about taking the biggest leap towards our dream: starting our own campsite. This wasn't a casual decision. Imagine kitchen table debates, late-night spreadsheets, and the kids' excited drawings of treehouses. We loved camping, but turning a passion into a business? That was a different beast.
The "what ifs" were huge: What if the council said no? What if it didn't work? But the kids' excitement and the peace we found in nature always pushed those anxieties aside.
The application itself was a crash course in bureaucracy: maps, surveys, detailed drawings. It felt monumental, a true family effort fueled by tea and biscuits. Submitting that hefty package felt like sending a piece of our future into the unknown. A mix of relief and anticipation washed over us.
We knew it wouldn't be quick, but there was a quiet confidence. 2021 officially marked the start of our campsite journey.
And little did we know just how much work, excitement and a few sleepless nights were still to come!
From Plans to Reality
Once the planning process was underway, the dream started to feel a little more real.
There is a big difference between drawing a campsite on paper and actually seeing it take shape in front of you. What had started as conversations around the kitchen table slowly became plans, building work, muddy boots and plenty of hard work.
There were plenty of jobs that we could never have imagined when we first started. Every little improvement brought us one step closer to creating the campsite we had pictured.
And, of course, doing it as a family meant there was always someone with an idea, a job to do or a slightly different opinion on how something should be done!
Building Our Facilities
One of the biggest steps in turning the farm into a proper campsite was the addition of our toilet and shower facilities.
We wanted to create somewhere that was comfortable, clean and practical, while still fitting in with the peaceful countryside setting around us.
Adding the toilet block was a huge milestone for us. It was another moment where we could stand back and think, "Wow... we're actually doing this!"
It might not sound as exciting as putting up a tent or sitting around a campfire, but for us it represented countless hours of planning, building and hard work — and another important piece of Pumllog Farm falling into place.
Growing One Step at a Time
We've always wanted Pumllog Farm to feel like more than just somewhere to park a tent or camper.
As the years have gone by, we've continued to make improvements, learn from our guests and look for ways to make the site better while keeping the things that make it special.
The countryside, the peace and quiet, the dark skies and the feeling of getting away from everyday life are what inspired us to start this journey in the first place.
We don't want to lose any of that as we grow.
2026 – A Very Special Year
Fast forward to 2026, and Pumllog Farm reached another exciting milestone.
With the Eisteddfod coming to the area, it felt like a particularly special year for us and for our little corner of Wales.
The Eisteddfod is such an important part of Welsh culture, bringing people together through music, performance, language and community. Having it taking place here in 2026 made the year feel even more significant for us.
It was also a reminder of why we wanted to create a campsite here in the first place — to give people the opportunity to come and experience this beautiful part of Wales for themselves.
And We're Still Only Getting Started...
Looking back to those first conversations in 2021, it's hard to believe how far we've come.
What started with an idea, a few plans and a lot of "Do you think we can actually do this?" has grown into Pumllog Farm Campsite.
There have been challenges, plenty of hard work and more than a few moments where we've wondered what we'd got ourselves into!
But there have also been some amazing moments — welcoming our first guests, seeing people enjoying the site, hearing stories about their trips and watching families make their own memories here.
And that's what makes all the hard work worthwhile.
This is our journey, but we're now lucky enough to be part of yours too.
